GERRIT RIETVELD ACADEMIE

A collaged portrait for the anniversary show of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Institute, Gerrit turns 50, Willem only 28 | Anniversary Show. The image shows the former and present directors of the two academies embedded in architectural elements of the three different buildings of the campus. In a 3-dimensional paper collage, I combined my own photographs of the buildings with found images of the directors to create a group portrait that investigates and questions various power poses and suits.

"Gerrit turns 50, Willem only 28 marks the anniversaries of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Instituut. An exhibition and public programme portray elements of the histories and communities of these educational institutes of fine arts and design. Taking place in and around the buildings on the joint campus site in Amsterdam, a series of curated capsules include archival artefacts and a variety of works by students, alumni, tutors, directors and staff from the period 1968 to 2018."
