Undercover Handover
(2018)
Belarusian residents on a secret mission? What seems like a harmless shopping spree turns out to be an undercover arrangement to hand over a hidden message amongst disguised agents in Minsk.
This book resulted from a study trip to Minsk in 2018. I made collages with photographs I had taken on the streets: the city’s imposing Soviet architecture on the one hand and elderly people with shopping bags on the other, which I found to be in odd contrast to each other. I enhanced this juxtaposition by inverting the scales of people and buildings. I also hand-colored some street photographs in reminiscence of old Soviet postcards and included them in the book.
